One of the most exciting news that Chad had while he was in Ecuador was that we had become a sponsor/of many sponsors to Veronica. Veronica is in the LDP program (Leadership Development Program) that Compassion has put together. These are young people that have been in the Compassion program as young children and have excelled at their grades and studies...not to be taken lightly. The LDP program creates sponsors for these young teens to attend college and break the cylce of poverty in their families. Veronica had made it into the LDP program, but had been waiting for over a year for a sponsor. The LDP sponsors are harder to find because it's a great financial commitment. Veronica had attened dinner with one of her friends (Jessis, also an LDP student) to meet her sponsor that was a member of the IT team from Compassion. While Veronica was telling her dreams and goals to the group of Compassion IT folks, they decided that they, as a team would sponsor her. She was so excited! She can now begin God's plan for her to attend college and she wants to make a difference in the world food crisis and someday work for Compassion! Chad says she is a brilliant young lady and she stole the hearts of everyone that she met that night at dinner. She is a true example of someone on the road to breaking the chains of poverty. The team got a chance to visit her home which had a single cord and one light bulb. She has a younger brother and a single mom. When asked what they need, all they needed was food. They just wanted to eat.
